5 Solos PR Pros Share Why They’re Part of The Solo PR Pro Premium Community

Oct 12, 2021 | Living the Life

Just because you’re a solo PR pro doesn’t mean you’re in this alone. There’s a whole community of like minded people you can lean on.

In this monthly series, we ask five Solo PR Pro members to share their best tips, tricks and resources for managing their solo business.

5 solo PR pros share why they love being a member of Solo PR Pro Premium

This month, we asked our panel of solo PR pros to share why they choose to be a member of the Solo PR Pro Premium community.

And in case you need any more convincing, here are three smart reasons to join Solo PR Pro Premium.

1. Marcia Gomez, Blank Canvas Communications

Solo PR Pro has been invaluable to me in running my business. It is a guarantee that you have a network of professionals who understand the journey and are at the ready in case you get stuck. It is that community you turn to when you need to vent (the proverbial water cooler). It is that group of people you can turn to when you need guidance, direction or a gut check.

The resources that we have access to are priceless as we have access to templates for contracts, crisis planning, PR plan templates and so much more. Plus, having the opportunity to access the blog and podcast also makes the monthly fee a very small price to pay for a wealth of information.

2. Mary Deming Barber, APR, Fellow PRSA, The Barber Group

I became a solo professional to be free to work when and how I wanted to, for clients I wanted to work for. That decision also meant working alone more often than in previous positions.

Solo PR Pro created a team of co-workers with whom to laugh, cry and grow as professionals. It’s a community of trusted friends who are there when needed and willing to share what they know about our profession. It doesn’t matter if you have one year or 20 in the profession; if you’re new to being a business person or have 10 years. It’s a 24-hour lunch date.

Anyone up for virtual coffee?

3. Gayle Lynn Falkenthal, APR, Fellow PRSA, Falcon Valley Group

While I relish the freedom and flexibility of being a solo practitioner, the lack of a sounding board is challenging. As a Solo PR Pro member, I have a ready-made team of expert counselors standing by to answer even my toughest questions. I'm impressed by the smart, creative answers. Everyone is generous with their time and tips. It inspires me to pay it forward whenever I can — and the positive cycle continues as the group grows.

Also, having a safe place to vent prevents me from saying something I'd deeply regret later. I'm only slightly kidding.

4. Laura Frnka-Davis, APR, Principal, LFD Communications

I always say Solo PR Pro is worth the cost of admission! I love the brainstorming, networking, and opportunities to just bounce ideas off of other solos. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about being a solo in the last three years it's that you don’t operate in a vacuum, which is why I’m so grateful for this resource.

5. Janet Falk, Falk Communications and Research

Solo PR Pro is a community where we get and give feedback on ideas, request and share resources and celebrate wins and commiserate over losses.

I have received referrals to potential clients, some of whom I landed. I hired a local peer, who attended a client event when I traveled. Recently, a client found me in the directory.

I enjoy the camaraderie of like-minded professionals who operate their practices as a business. I belong to other groups of PR professionals, but they focus on lifestyle and tech, so the generalist vibe here deeply resonates with me.

It's a financial and psychological ROI.
