How to Get to the Top of the Blogging Heap

Apr 22, 2014 | PR Updates

mountain climbers high five on snowy peakIn this dog eat dog world, do people really cooperate to get to the top? Of course they do, and the world of blogging is one of the most obvious examples. Solo PR Pros support each other on a regular basis, and today we're unveiling a resource to help you easily find and support the blogs of your fellow indie communication consultants (and, if you’re a member of Solo PR PRO Premium, get some well-deserved attention for your own blog).

Everyone has to start somewhere – and virtually all of the top communications blogs began in exactly this fashion. Early bloggers regularly promoted and linked to each other, building communities of idea-sharing pros and sharing the spotlight among them. With a growing number of big blogs morphing into their next phase by becoming group or agency blogs, or resembling media properties (removing comments, etc.), this leaves an important opening for fresh voices, independent opinions, and creative new ideas on approaching  today’s communications challenges.

Shining a light

While indie PR pros typically understand the value a blog can deliver, they also often have a lot of angst about writing and promoting their content. Starting (or reigniting) a business blog can be a good platform for branding, building a thought leadership platform, generating new business leads and nurturing closer connections within your industry. But without conversation, feedback and community, it’s easy to feel like you’re blogging in a vacuum – which isn’t a lot of fun.

We’re helping make it easier in our new Solo PR Premium Blog Spotlight. Here, on a level playing field, you’ll find the widely-read outlets of some of blogging’s earliest adopters alongside new and niche blogs from the emerging stars of tomorrow, all with one thing in common: these savvy authors are leading the field by joining the thriving Solo PR PRO Premium community.  More blogs are being added to the spotlight daily, so be sure to check back often (or use our aggregate link to subscribe)!

Even if you aren’t actively blogging, regularly commenting on the blogs of others allows you to demonstrate your own thought leadership and build real relationships online that can lead to mutually beneficial opportunities. The Solo PR Premium Blog Spotlight is an easy way to discover interesting content for commenting, social media sharing and professional development, and offers a one-stop spot to catch up on the hot topics among your fellow indie consultants.

Inclusion in our blog spotlight is for members of Solo PR PRO Premium only, but everyone is invited to read, share, and enjoy! If you’d like to learn more about joining us as a premium member, click here, and just let us know if you have any questions in the comments.
