The holiday period is a good time to remember a critical strategy for your long-term success: the importance of taking some time off – away from your business – to regroup, renew and re-energize.
All of the long-standing, profitable Solo PR Pros I know are committed to their quality of life outside of work. Every single one of them. This is no accident. Beyond burnout, the dangers of not taking time off can include a significant strain on your relationships, health, and concentration.
Most of your clients are taking a break right now, and don’t you want to be able to match their energy come January 4? So, keep one eye on your email if you must, organize your plans for next year if the spirit moves you, but try to avoid working on actual projects during this period if you can.
To practice what I preach, this blog will be on a short break until January. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for reading and commenting here at Solo PR Pro, and for participating in our community via our Twitter chats and the LinkedIn group.
Many of the best and brightest minds in the PR business are independent consultants, and I’m proud to call you colleagues. I hope you all have a very happy and safe holiday season, and here’s to making 2010 the best year yet!
What will you be doing over the holidays? Have any special celebrations planned or downtime activities?
Kellye, you are absolutely right. Although I'm working this week, in all honesty I have learned over the years that I am better and more productive when I do take time. This year I switched to a 4 day work week and it was the smartest thing I've done. The impact was having a real, full weekend off to recharge and refresh. Next year I may aim for 3 days 🙂 Thank you for all that you have so graciously given this year. Happy Holidays to you and I wish you even greater joy and success in 2010.
Thanks for weighing in, Karen. Your policy of a 4-day work week sounds like something we should all aspire to! Your success proves that it works. Thank you for sharing your wisdom, and we look forward to continuing to learn from you in 2010.
I read your profile today and it was so good to me.i feel you are the only one missing in my entire life so i decided to stop on and let you know that i am interested to be a friend first. When the fight begins within himself, a man's worth something
