Jason Falls is one of the PR industry's most prominent voices, playing a key role in helping the rest of us understand and navigate the always-changing world of social media. His blog, Social Media Explorer, is in the top 10 on the list of Advertising Age Power 150 Blogs and is a must-read for beginners and veterans alike. Known for being both smart and hilarious, Jason always delivers on both counts.
Recently, Jason made the decision to leave Louisville's Doe-Anderson and become an independent PR and social media consultant at Social Media Explorer, LLC. He was kind enough to sit down with me to tell us why someone with so many options would opt to become a Solo PR Pro, and share his insights as a newly minted free agent.
Good post Kellye…Jason is a good interview subject and simply, “knows his stuff.”
Kellye, with this post I realize I've been reading your blog (and lurking in the background) for a while now. Thank you for taking the time to talk with Jason and sharing his insights with us. I have a new found appreciation for you both after meeting face to face.
Thanks, Don. He's also generous, and was happy to speak to other Solo PR Pros on the topic!
Hi Kathy- Glad to have you join us out in the open! It was terrific meeting you, too.
@jasonfalls wanted to give up administrative stuff, lol. Sorry friend, that never goes away. As you mentioned. π
You're right…that darn admin crap NEVER goes away. You just hire someone to do it for you or delegate. π
Thanks for the comment, Kami/Don – so true!
But on a more serious note, I think I know what Jason means. When working for someone else, often the more senior you become the less time you spend doing actual PR work. Lots of managing of other people and taking angry client calls, but not so much doing the things that attracted you to this business in the first place. That was one of the main reasons I chose to become independent, myself. Love it!
