Those who aren’t independent consultants might think there is rivalry and discord among our ranks. After all, aren’t we competing against each other? Wouldn’t a little back-stabbing be expected?
In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. The reality is virtually all PR and MarCom consultants behave as if we’re members of a highly connected and supportive club. We’re a band of brothers and sisters, and it’s us against the world! After all, each of us has our own unique strengths and areas of expertise, and there are plenty of opportunities to go around. For many of us, other consultants are our best source of referrals and new business.
I’ve seen this team spirit in full force lately, as I’ve had some minor medical issues that have meant I’m temporarily less productive than usual. Other solo PR pros have rallied to my side, and offered help wherever I need it. I’ll be out of the office for two weeks this month, and you’ll see a number of guest posts and interviews on this blog – brought to you by the amazing and smart folks in this loyal consultants alliance.
So to my fellow Solo PR Pros, thank you for your support, and for reminding me that one of the best things about being independent is the camaraderie I experience with all of you each day.

Kellye, when I escaped Corporate I was pleasantly surprised by the incredible support from marketers and writers. I always despised the shark mentality present in corporate and it appears so did many others. It is amazing to support, and celebrate the successes of fellow professionals. Cheers to you for leading the tribe!

That is so true! Friends and family of mine are always curious when I share my “secrets” with other consultants. Their reaction floors me every time. I can’t say anything more than you say above. You nailed it. I didn’t see too much competition in the corporate world, but I can’t imagine working at an agency again.
Karen and Jen – Thanks for sharing your positive experiences! I agree that it’s surprising to a lot of people (it was to me), so hopefully this post helps new solos feel more comfortable in our friendly gang.
Thanks Solo PR Pro, you are a great platform always with a good content, really apreciated.
