Solo PR Pros – Small Size, Big Impact

Feb 19, 2019 | Living the Life

When Solo PR Pros get a seat at the table they do amazing work. However, some companies will not even allow solos into the room because of their size, and this can be a huge mistake. In a recent post for Cision I discussed large agencies and solo PR Pros. In it I argue, that rather than discussing which is better, companies should be leveraging both types of agencies to maximize results.

There is nothing new about entrepreneurial communications professionals running their own agency, yet, there are persistent misconceptions about their expertise and capabilities. Common misconceptions about Solo PR Pros include:

  • They are bound by geography
  • They always work alone
  • They only do project work
  • They do not have the capacity to work with large clients
  • They are freelancers
  • They don’t do the same work as agencies.

In fact, much like traditional agencies, solos come in a variety of sizes and flavors. Practices can be highly specialized or general. A solo shop can be 1-2 people or a thriving micro agency with  a network that spans the globe.

In 2019, we need to work hard to educate companies on the benefits and advantages of hiring solo PR pros. When seeking communications support, companies should not make the decision based on size but fit. In fact, having a large agency and micro agency can be a game changing strategy that delivers even better results.

You can read the full post over at Cision. Read and share widely, as we work together to educate the market on the vast capabilities of Solo PR Pros.

How about you? Have you ever lost an opportunity due to your size? How did you manage it? Let us know in the comments or on social media using #solopr what you learned from the experience.
